Traineeships – Rewards for employers

The Australian Government offers financial support to employers of Australian Apprentices to help offset the cost of supporting an apprentice.

A snapshot of traineeship incentives as of 1 July 2022:

  • Hiring Incentive Subsidies apply to employers of Australian Apprentices who are undertaking a Certificate II or above qualification that is not listed on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority list.

    A payment of $1750 (for a full-time apprentice) and $875 (for a part-time apprentice) is made at 6 and 12 months from the date of commencement.

  • Priority Wage Subsidies apply to employers of Australian Apprentices who are training toward an occupation listed on the Australian Apprenticeships Priority List.

    Employers can claim 10% of wages paid to the Australian Apprentice for the first and second 12-month period (up to $1,500 per quarter) and 5% of the wages paid to the Australian Apprentice for the third 12-month period (up to $750 per quarter).

  • Disability Australian Apprentice Wage Support applies to employers of Australian Apprentices with a disability who are undertaking a Certificate II or a higher-level qualification.The Disability Australian Apprentice Wage Support is a wage subsidy of $104.30 per week for a full- time Australian Apprentice, or on a pro-rata basis according to the hours worked for a part time Australian Apprentice.

    Payments are made to employers for 12 months in the case of a long-term or permanent disability or a specific period in the case of a temporary disability.

Primary eligibility requirements must be met to claim payments under the Incentives System. NCVE can assist you with assessing your trainee’s eligibility. Nationally recognised qualifications are available to employees and provide the opportunity to participate in a structured training program.

The elective subject choices that are offered as part of most traineeships means that you can tailor the program to your specific business needs.

Qualifications and Enrolment Fees for Trainees

Smart and Skilled qualifications are subsidised by the NSW Government. Eligible students can choose from hundreds of qualifications, from Certificate I to Advanced Diploma.
All of NCVE’s qualifications from Certificate III to Diplomas can be completed under fee-free programs.

Employability Skills Courses

All of NCVE’s courses are nationally recognised and are taught by exceptional trainers with real-life skills and experience.

Unless a specific agreement is in place to invoice the trainee directly, course fees are usually invoiced to the employer for payment.
Certificate III and Certificate IV qualifications – $4,000.
Diploma qualifications – $5,000.

The NSW Smart and Skilled List pricing schedule specifies the fees for trainees registered under NSW Smart and Skilled.

The standard enrolment fee for New Entrant Trainees was $0, as of July 2022. You can check the information using the Fee Checker on the relevant course website page.

The minimum number of units required to complete the qualification are covered by the fees.

Workplace learning and development programs

NCVE has industry-experienced assessors and trainers in hospitality, retail, business, management and leadership who will visit your worksite six times over six months, with each visit taking less than an hour. The program can also be delivered online. The process is simple and based on the staff members’ work experience as opposed to a drawn-out process of sitting in a classroom. Upskilling and related qualifications can be completed within six months.
