Brief presentation
There are so many features of this iconic city that make living there an incredible experience from its stunning harbour location to world class attractions, enthralling entertainment, and activities for days. You’re spoiled for choice when it comes to dining out and there are plenty of affordable transport options to get you from A to B.
With a population in excess of 5.2 million and the largest economy in Australia, Sydney boasts a multitude of employment opportunities. It’s easy to see why large numbers of international students’ flock to this bustling city.
Climate
With short winters and warm summers, Sydney’s temperature ranges from 8° to 27° throughout the year but rarely gets below 5° or above 32°. This leaves plenty of days with clear blue skies to enjoy all that the city has to offer.

Affordable
While there are some slightly higher costs to living in Sydney, it is possible to study and enjoy this city on a student budget. There are always smart ways to save and stretch your budget, it’s just a matter of knowing where to look and weighing up options. Although accommodation will be the biggest expense when it comes to living in Sydney, there are plenty of choices further afield in the suburbs. The travelling time can be used to catch up on study or reading. Consider sharing a studio apartment or house, where you can split utility bills, sometimes you will find a place that includes water and electricity in the cost of rent.
Australian Education International estimates than an international student in Sydney will spend about $550 a week on accommodation, food, clothing, entertainment, transport and telephone. This figure is a guide only. The costs will vary depending on your location, lifestyle and even your course.

Even though you will want to spend most of your time taking in the sights and sounds of Sydney (when you’re not studying), you are within a few hours of some of the highlights of New South Wales. Whether it be a visit to a coastal town or an inland village, time will feel like it has slowed down, and you will be able to enjoy the breathtaking scenery and the welcoming nature of people in these communities. The world-famous Blue Mountains are right on your doorstep and is your closest day trip from Sydney. If wining and dining is more your thing, you can get to the Hunter Valley by train and bus in around three hours from Sydney. In less than two hours by train you can get to Coalcliff Station and walk to the Sea Cliff Bridge, and as the name suggests, walk along a 665m bridge which goes out over the water away from the rock face. This is the start of the true South Coast which is known for its beaches, national parks and whale watching.

Getting Around
With a sophisticated transportation network, making your way around Sydney is easy and affordable. All public transport, including trains, ferries, buses and light rail, use the Opal card system. This allows you to travel as much as you like within the Opal network without paying any more than the capped fare.
Sydney students receive a 50 per cent discount on local public transport and 25 per cent discount on bike hire with [insert bicycle supplier].
